OCR: Here is an extract from a commemorative inscription to one remarkable charioteer. Galus Appuleius Diocles, charioteer of the Red Faction, a Lusitanian Spainard by birth, died aged 42 years, 7 months and 23 days. He drove his first chariot in the White stable, when Avida and Corellius Pansa were consuls ( 122 AD). He won his first victory in the same Faction, when Manius Acilius Glabrio and Gaius Bellicuis Torquatus were consuls .... He won his first victory for the Red Faction in the consulship of Laenas Pontianus and Antonius Rufinus ( 131 AD). Grand Totals: He drove chariots for 24 years, started in 4257 races and won 1462 victories, and 92 major money prizes in single races (one team per faction), in which he won 1064 of his victories. 32 of his wins (including 3 with 6-horse teams) were 30,000 sesterces prizes, 28 (including 2 with 6-horse teams) of 40,000 sesterces, 29 (including 1 with a seven-horse team! ) of 50,000 sesterces and even 3 al 60,000 sesterces. He won, or was placed 2,900 times, and took 86 1 second places, 576 third places and 1 forth. He tied with blue for first 10 times, and white 91 times. His total winnings were 35,863, 120 sesterces.
